Our pedagogy

Language instruction

Our courses aim to develop students oral and written language competency in order to help them reach a level of fluency where they will be able to communicate efficiently and effectively in French. To achieve this they will need both a strong command of the language as well as an in-depth understanding of French culture.

How do we proceed?

Defining your linguistic needs.

The first step is to define clearly your linguistic needs, then we will decide together which type of course is best suited, its duration, intensity and the schedule of the programme.

Preliminary evaluation test.

C-Lingua follows the Common European Framework of Reference for learning, teaching and assessing French as a foreign language, and we place our students in groups based on the levels defined in this framework.

The evaluation tests carried out help us, first of all, to assess the precise language level of the student, but also to define the problem areas we wil have to focus on, and finally, ensure homogeneous groups and instruction at the appropriate level. We can then develop efficient programmes centered on specific areas as, for example, written or spoken French, business vocabulary or grammar reinforcement.

Individual or semi-individual courses.

These classes are designed to be adapted to your level, your availability, your rythm, and are oriented to suit your needs. Every person progresses according to its own pace, has its own specific problem areas, considerations we do take into account in our teaching.

Courses being tailor-made, the instructional content is subject to change according to the student's requirements.

Group courses

The best way to learn a language is to listen to it and to speak it. Yet, only small groups are able to enhance natural verbalisation . That is why we keep the class size limited to 6 students, ensuring that each trainee actively participates.

Group courses also offer the opportunity to work in smaller groups of 2 to 3 persons. An efficient exercice that stimulates exchange, communication and mutual help.

While taking into account the language needs and learning strategies of each student we also include in our teaching specific requirements, as for example, learning to listen, oral comprehension, for people confronted with frequent telephone calls or writing for those having to write letters, notes or e-mails in French
.

Teaching method

Oral communication is a priority

Priority is given to oral communication: learning to listen, understand, speak and express yourself naturally and appropriately, with fluency and correct pronunciation and intonation.

Various activities

We mean it is essential to offer adult students courses that will stimulate their interest in order not to prejudice the efficency of the teaching. For that reason, we take in account the professional or private fields of interest of our students.

Diversifying activities allows to present the language in different contexes. It is also a way, for the teacher, to maintain students' concentration and to ensure active participation. Our courses include various complementary exercices:

Reading
Analysis of written documents
Thematic study of vocabulary
Grammar
Listening practice
Oral communication practice using texts and exercices aimed on oral production : presentations followed by debates, oral reading reports, role-plays, simulations of daily or professionnal life situations, improvisation, etc.

Importance of the intercultural aspect

Language is not only a linguistic instrument, it is also the vehicle of culture. Learning another language plays a key role in the process of integration as it also encourages to become more open to others, their cultures and outlook. That is why we give, in our teaching, intercultural learning the place it deserves.

Checking knowledge

In order to check if students have assimilated our teaching, we regularly test their knowledge with exercices, quizzes , oral and written tests that give us an overall view of their progress.

Teaching material

Although we utilize various textbooks, we have chosen not to limit ourselves to their use. The reason is that, despite the qualities of certain textbooks, they can never really reflect the authentic French language, as spoken in the street, in television, radio, cinema, or in another french speaking country.
Our students live in Bruxelles, this is why we have chosen to work using, as teaching materials, written or audio-visual documents, created by French speaking people for French speaking people.

We practice:

Listening and oral comprehension: using authentic audio-visual materials, such as extracts from movies, TV and radio programs, publicity spots, songs etc.

Reading and written comprehension: analysing authentic written texts, such as newspaper and magazine articles, professional documents, administrative forms, literature, brochures, leaflets, etc.

In case of specific or personal need, we also develop our own teaching material.

End of course test

At the end of the programme, the student will generally take an oral and a written test to determine the progress made as well as the level reached.

Course report

Following the end of course test, a detailed report is elaborated, that contains course contents, motivation degree of the student, summary of attendance and preparation, individual capacities, level and progress reached, tests results, as well as suggestions for areas to deepen.

The course report appendices include an attendance and a preparation form.

As far as corporate courses are concerned, reports will be send to management.

For non corporate courses, report is elaborated if asked.

End of course certificate

A certificate of attendance is issued to each participant upon completion of the course, mentioning the type and the duration of the module as well as the level reached.
